A Small Token of Appreciation

Ok, so I'll be the first to admit that I was a little confused about this whole "Labor Day" thing.  I know it's the first holiday break in the school year.  I know it's considered the unofficial end of summer.  I know it has something to do with laboring.

I keep hearing Labor Day in reference to our soldiers and Labor day and Veterans and Labor Day and the Troops.  Now, don't get me wrong,  they work(ed) very hard to defend and protect our country.  I firmly believe that our country is worth fighting for.  So, I'm not knocking our military.  They deserve to be appreciated, honored and respected.

However, isn't Memorial Day and Veterans Day their official holidays?

So, I had to consult the interwebz....

According to the Department of Labor (fitting, huh?)

"Labor Day, the first Monday in September, is a creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country."

In honor of Labor Day, I have a few people I want to celebrate.

My Dad
Thank you for teaching me the value of hard work.  Thank you for sacrificing so that I could go to private schools, have braces on my teeth, gas in my car and a roof over my head.  For coming to my aid as a child, teen and adult in financial times of need.  For always putting God first and using your talents to thrive.

My Husband
Thank you for slaving away day in day out, hour on top of hour, with little to no appreciation. Thank you for never complaining about the status of our bank account.  For going without so that the kids could have.  For foregoing car payments in lieu of tuition payments.  For teaching our children a solid work ethic and to appreciate the simple things in life.

All Working Men and Women
Thank you for contributing to the well-being of our society.  Each job, no matter how big or small, affects the world we live in.

Our Troops
Thank you for protecting our lives and liberties.  Your work keeps us free.

May all who labor find rest.

Happy Labor Day weekend!

Oddly enough, I looked up the origin of Labor day just a couple hours ago! Great list of thank yous! I'm also grateful my parents worked hard so I could have braces. My teeth are yellow, but beautifully straight. :)
