In my quest to get fit, last week I sorted, cleaned, discarded and rearranged our storage area in the basement. Even though this was quite a work out, that wasn't really my intention when I started this project. I was on a mission to find a certain yoga dvd.
While my efforts did burn a few extra calories, I did not find it.
Hope was not lost, though. With a quick Ebay search and a few clicks, my circa 2001 Mom and Baby yoga was on the way.
I first purchased this particular yoga workout when I was pregnant with Alex....seven years ago. It is a two disc pre and post natal yoga routine. It is weird and cheesy. But I LOVE it!
And more importantly, I loved the results.
The positions are designed to target those areas where carrying a baby for nine months wrecked havoc. A peaceful, serene workout for both mom and the baby.
In the past, I would get the baby down for a nap and then dedicate forty minutes to myself. I really didn't care to have the baby as part of my workout. The positions worked just fine without the baby, and I could make sure I was doing it all properly and to the best of my ability. (I'm kind of a perfectionist like that). Adding the baby just seemed like a hassel.
Today was the first day I have ever done it with an actual baby.
And it actually wasn't horrible.
Layla laughed and cooed the entire time. And I added an extra nine pound weight to my workout.
It was so much fun that I'm considering incorporating the baby more regularly.
She got some extra playtime. I got an extra workout in. We are both feeling fantastic.
Maybe this fitness thing won't be so bad afterall.

Oh that sounds so nice. I always envied those people who could incorporate the baby into a real workout. Truthfully I just don't think I am coordinated enough.
